Can I take food in my carry-on luggage?

    Souleymane Enok

Yes, it is generally allowed to bring food in carry-on luggage, provided that certain security rules are respected, especially those regarding liquids. Airport authorities allow most food items, particularly when they are solid, but restrictions exist depending on their form and packaging.

Solid food is, in the vast majority of cases, accepted in the cabin without any issues. This includes, for example, sandwiches, biscuits, fruit, pastries, cereal bars, dried fruit, or even cold prepared meals. These products can be carried in a bag or an airtight container and eaten during the flight.

On the other hand, liquid or semi-liquid food is subject to the regulations on liquids in the cabin. Products such as soups, sauces, yogurt, applesauce, jams, or purées must comply with the limit of 100 ml per container, all placed in a transparent plastic bag with a maximum capacity of one liter. If this rule is not followed, the food will be refused at the security checkpoint.

Food purchased after the security checkpoint, in the duty-free area, is not subject to these restrictions. You can therefore freely purchase drinks or takeout food and bring them on board.

It is also important to take into account customs regulations, particularly for international flights. Some countries prohibit the entry of products of animal or plant origin (meat, cheese, fresh fruit). Even if these foods are allowed in the cabin upon departure, they may be confiscated upon arrival.

Airlines generally do not prohibit personal food in the cabin, as long as it does not disturb other passengers and does not emit strong odors.

In summary, yes, you can bring food in your carry-on luggage:

    • solid food is allowed,
    • liquid food is subject to the 100 ml rule,
    • purchases made after security are free,
    • and you must remain attentive to the rules of the destination country.

By following these conditions, you can travel with your meals or snacks without difficulty.
