Why your suitcase will certainly be refused in the cabin?

    amin bram

Since the announcement of the new European regulation on cabin baggage, one thing is certain: most classic hard-shell suitcases will no longer pass.
The standard imposed by the European Union starting at the end of summer 2025 guarantees every passenger one free cabin bag. But be careful: this bag must now meet very strict dimensions: 40×30×15 cm, not a centimeter more.

And that is where the problem begins: very few hard-shell suitcases on the market today meet this 15 cm depth. Between the wheels, the hard shell, and the handles, "classic" models systematically exceed it—even those sold as "low-cost compatible cabin bags."

Here is why your suitcase is at risk of being rejected in 2025:

    • Too thick: the standard requires a depth of 15 cm, compared to 20 to 25 cm for classic suitcases
    • Wheels and handles not included in the dimensions by some manufacturers
    • Reinforced gate checks: airlines now apply immediate fees for any excess
    • Lack of flexibility: a hard shell cannot be compressed to fit under a seat

💡 The good news? As soon as the official implementation begins, we will offer a range of cabin bags specifically designed to scrupulously comply with the 40×30×15 cm standard – while optimizing space, quick access, and practicality.

FAQ – What you need to know before your next flight with your cabin bag

When does the new standard officially apply?

It comes into effect at the end of summer 2025, but some airlines have already started applying it as early as July.

Is 40×30×15 cm really the only accepted size?

It is the minimum size guaranteed for free. Airlines may offer larger formats, but only as an option or at a higher fare.

Why do commercial suitcases still exceed it?

Because the majority of current models follow the old standards (e.g., 55×35×20 cm). The new maximum depth of 15 cm excludes most hard-shell suitcases with wheels.

Can a 40×30×20 cm suitcase still pass?

Sometimes, but it is not guaranteed. In the event of a strict check, 5 cm too many = refusal or fees.
